The Pincet article series includes a set of 5 recommendations for how to increase value and reduce waste in research. The most important are:

.To encourage greater public involvement in the research process, funders must be transparent about their decision-making processes and invest in studies to see how effectively stakeholders are prioritizing projects of social importance.

.Research funders and regulators should strive to ensure the utmost efficiency in new primary research. This includes requiring proposals for such projects are justified by systematic reviews of existing evidence, as well as increased funding for syntheses that provide a comprehensive overview of what is already known. Through this heightened level of monitoring and auditing, we can better guarantee each project’s success and cost-effectiveness.

.Unlocking the data behind biomedical research and giving transparency to scientific progress: that’s what we’re striving for. By encouraging researchers to make public all protocols, analysis plans or analytical choices, as well as raw data within 6 months of publication – knowledge opens up new opportunities! We can unlock a greater understanding of biology than ever before by making this information widely available.

.The future of research relies upon accountable and dependable practices; reward those that foster a culture where replicable results can be achieved. Through grants, acknowledgements, or other incentives promote the efficient duplication studies to validate accuracy. Measure progress by tracking how much ongoing independent replication and reproduction is taking place in order to guarantee reliable outcomes for everyone involved.

.To ensure that research is conducted safely and proportionately, a collective effort from regulators, policy makers, researchers, health professionals and patients needs to take place. Monitoring should occur in order to identify any delays or inconsistencies caused by discrepancies between laws/regulations/guidelines for the purpose of creating cohesion among them all.
